Lake Weiss

Lake History

Lake Weiss was developed by Alabama Power Company as a hydro-electric impoundment of the Coosa, Chattooga and Little Rivers, with over 440 miles of shoreline and 30,000+ acres, making it the ideal habitat for championship size Crappie, Bass and Striper. With its shallow flats, drop-offs, deep channels, and large inlets, its this unique fishing habitat that makes Lake Weiss so popular. This is reflected by the fact more out-of-state fishing licenses are issued here than at any other lake in the State of Alabama. Weiss Lake is known throughout the South and Midwest for producing many 2lb+ Crappie, thus the name Crappie Capital of the World.
